(1) I'm not familiar with c-mode.el, but the binding for Linefeed is
standard in all GNU Emacs programming modes. C-mode probably inherits
it from somewhere, or loads another library. The same mechanism is
used to recognize it.
(2) Just rebind \C-M to reindent-then-newline-and-indent, as you did
with c++-mode.
