Your installation procedure looks ok, but there is still the possibility that
another copy of go32 has been installed somewhere else as part of the
installation of a different software package. Assuming you are running DOS 5
or higher, try ATTRIB /S GO32.EXE from the root directory (or use any other
whereis utility) and see if another GO32 shows up.
Second guess is something unlikely: gcc 2.5.7 came out a few days before the
maint1 release, but the files were marked as needing maint1. Perhaps some
automated procedure left over from that transition period is running stubedit
to change the version number?
I don't have a reasonable third guess.
