There are a number of possible solutions. The most roundabout that I
can think of is "get ghostscript, use dvips, and then gs the .ps
file". That seems a bit much, but getting Ghostscript is worth the
effort anyway. Second, there are a bunch of Japanese TeXs around, and
all of them have a "dviprt" program or something like that.
ftp.kuis.kyoto-u.ac.jp:/pub/DOS-EXTENDERS/386/ASCII-TeX/drivers or
something like that (don't use the NTT version, the fonts are
different). The printer drivers don't care if you don't speak
Japanese :-). Both of these solutions will work with the most basic
LaserJet.
Finally, there is a program "dvilj" which I just noticed in the
linux distribution somewhere. wuarchive.wustl.edu:/systems/linux/tex,
I would guess. I suppose this program would work on a LJ one. You
might have to port it to DJGPP, but that can't be very hard, since it
shouldn't be doing anything weird with interrupts, shells, multiple
threads, etc.
