Subject:	PC timer

I am trying to get the number of ticks from the PC timer chip
and can't find the right routine to do so.  I just need the 
number of 18.2Hz ticks.  The use of gettimeofday() is not clear
and I couldn't find anything in the docs/sources that helped.
Any help would be appreciated.
