I finally got a printout of the GAS docs, (thanks to person who converted
them to postscript).  However, I could not find information on register usage.

  1  Which registers must be preserved in C/C++/Assembly routines
  2  Can I use segment pointers %es %fs & %gs (I could use a few address regs)
