I posted this to comp.os.msdos.desqview and comp.lang.perl:

Has anyone compiled MS-DOS perl with the Berkley sockets promised with
DESQview/X?  This is really beyond my current capabilites (sockets are
completely new to me as a DOS grunt most of my computing life).  Is this
a consideration in the current development of ports of perl to DOS?

We still live without genuine pipes, but it'd be nice to get what is
possible out of this old DOS box without giving up the world of idiot-ware.
