Subject:	Optimizer hangs

This may be the wrong list to post this to, but has anyone else
ecountered a situation where the optimizer (-O2) loops forever,
allocating more and more storage as it runs?  I stopped the compiler
after 3/4 hour while it was working on a 20k source.
