There are zip/unzip programs which are compatible with pk-zip/unzip.
They are very portable and run on Unix. MS-DOS PC, VMS, etc. I use them
all the time on Ultrix, SCO-UNIX and MSDOS. There is no reason to
invent another archive program.

Unzip version 4.2 is, by default, uses -d option. Namely it creates sub
directories and populate them accordingly.

Why not to use/adopt zip/unzip.
