ndmake is an older (but very nice) version of make by D. Kneller. It was
later released as opus make (commercial). ndmake45 is on simtel20.army.mil,
but I can't remember where. Any DOS user should get the index files from
simtel (go to the newsgroup comp.binaries.ibm.pc.archives and look for
posts from Keith Peterson and Timo Salmi). I can look this up if you have
trouble.
dmake is available for DOS and OS2 on ftp-os2.nmsu.edu. I've been using this
under OS2, and it looks quite nice. I was a registered user of ndmake, and
I believe that folks consider it a very good dos make.
