Another comment to the VDISK/Cache/Paging discussion:

I'm very happy with using smartdrv.exe from the WIN3.1 distribution. It
is *very* fast and I did not encounter any problems (yet). I'm using it
in conjunction with QEMM 6.02 - no problems.
