In terms of floating point libraries (graphics 2 and 3D) I don't know why
you couldn't use the VOGL stuff.  It is a device independent version of
SGI's GL library.  I can't remember the ftp address (I don't have ftp
access anymore so I don't keep them around for now) but someone must.
