>Granted that gcc can't produce 16-bit code, why can't djgpp recompile >itself for protected mode? I mean, a djgpp/386 so to speak? The compiler, linker, etc *are* compiled with themselves. They have to be, since they also require a 32-bit environment. The only program that can't be recompiled with gcc is the extender itself - the part that interfaces to the 16-bit world.
