Okay: I'll go back to the archives and see if I can dig something
up ("stat", "open", and ".exe" are not easy patterns to search for
tho').  It currently strikes me as strange (but then again, it
just bit me so I'm feeling delicate) but I'll go find some
discussion of its merits.
