Sigh.  That is actually a correct fix but it should have worked without it.

I have I feeling that it just shuffled some bits around and the problem is
still there.

I see that 1.3.3 release receding into the distance.

Did you see the report of rsync not working in the latest snapshot?  I wonder
what's up with that.
