For reasons, I would rather not go into, I need to release this version
of cygwin ASAP.  I think that the only remaining problems are in Ron's
court.

Ron, if you are not able to build things, then please check in your
changes and drop back to using MSVC.  I'll verify that things still
compile correctly under mingw.

Are there any other show-stopper issues that I should be aware of?
