No, no messages of any kind.

No, I was using the GUI formula: error_start=d:\cygwin\bin\gdb.exe

I'll try it again tonight with a batch file so that the params get 
passed (but I really like using the GUI...)

error_start=d:/cygwin/bin/gdbtest.bat
--gdbtest.bat--
d:\cygwin\bin\gdb -nw %1 %2 %3 %4 %5
