Subject: Updated: readline-4.3-2; libreadline5-4.3-2

The readline package has been updated to readline-4.3-2, and the
libreadline5 package has been updated to libreadline-4.3-2.
Readline is a library that provides user-input functions complete
with history functions and line-editing capabilities.

CHANGES to the readline package(s) since 4.3-1:

    1. Include the official patches for readline-4.3:
readline43-001 and readline43-002. This should correct
the infloop and vi-mode problems reported recently
       ftp://ftp.cwru.edu/pub/bash/readline-4.3-patches/

    2. Note that bash doesn't use the readline dll; cygwin's bash
is compiled against its own internal copy of the readline code.
Therefore, this correction to readline itself will not fix
any problems related to readline that are observed in bash's
operation. The patches for bash are here:
         ftp://ftp.cwru.edu/pub/bash/bash-2.05b-patches/
Unfortunately, it seems that most of the observed problems
are from bash's readline; to date, few of the official cygwin
packages actually use the readline library directly.

INSTALLATION:

To update your installation, click on the "Install Cygwin now" link
on the http://cygwin.com/ web page. This downloads setup.exe to your
system. Save it and run setup, answer the questions and pick
up 'readline' from the 'Libs' category. You may need to
click the "Full" button if it doesn't show up. You might want to
make sure you update/install BOTH of the following three packages:
readline-4.3-2
libreadline5-4.3-2

Note that we have recently stopped downloads from sources.redhat.com (
aka cygwin.com) due to bandwidth limitations. This means that you
will need to find a mirror which has this update.

In the US,
ftp://mirrors.rcn.net/mirrors/sources.redhat.com/cygwin/
is a reliable high bandwidth connection.

In the UK,
http://programming.ccp14.ac.uk/ftp-mirror/programming/cygwin/pub/cygwin/
is usually up-to-date within 48 hours.

If one of the above doesn't have the latest version of this package
then you can either wait for the site to be updated or find another
mirror.

If you have questions or comments, please send them to the Cygwin
mailing list at: cygwin AT cygwin DOT com . I would appreciate if you would
use this mailing list rather than emailing me directly. This includes
ideas and comments about the setup utility or Cygwin in general.

If you want to make a point or ask a question, the Cygwin mailing list
is the appropriate place.
