Some time ago I picked an item off the Cygwin TODO list and wrote a /proc
virtual filesystem implementation for Cygwin. My initial testsuite for this
was the procps package that I have packaged up for all of you to enjoy. This
includes such programs as top, another implementation of ps (handily called
procps.exe so as not to cause conflicts), uptime, and vmstat.
Few notes:
* It's highly likely that any bugs you find are in the /proc filesystem
implementation rather than the procps sources.
* The procps version of ps.exe does not show Windows processes (because
the /proc filesystem doesn't support them), so cannot be used as a complete
replacement for Cygwin's existing ps implementation.
* prockill forgets what it's supposed to do if you rename it to kill.

*** CYGWIN INSTALL ***
To update your installation, click on the "Install Cygwin now" link on
the http://sources.redhat.com/cygwin web page. This downloads setup.exe
to your system. The, run setup and answer all of the questions.

system. Then, run setup and answer all of the questions.
Note that we do not allow downloads from sources.redhat.com (aka
cygwin.com) due to bandwidth limitations. This means that you will need
to find a mirror which has this update. You might have to wait as much
as 24 hours to find a mirror with the updated version of cygwin on it.
Be patient.
