And to further my proposal that -pc- should be the correct config.guess
vendor I find the following comment in config.sub.

	# We use `pc' rather than `unknown'
	# because (1) that's what they normally are, and
	# (2) the word "unknown" tends to confuse beginning users.

	  basic_machine=$basic_machine-pc
	  ;;

I also find in the config.guess file the following filter for Linux on
x86_64.

    x86_64:Linux:*:*)
	echo ${UNAME_MACHINE}-pc-linux-${LIBC}
	exit ;;
