My versions are:

$uname -svr
CYGWIN_NT-6.1 1.7.28(0.271/5/3) 2014-02-09 21:06

$R --version
R version 3.0.1 (2013-05-16) -- "Good Sport"
Copyright (C) 2013 The R Foundation for Statistical Computing
Platform: x86_64-unknown-cygwin (64-bit)

The problem is likely due to my old version, then, or perhaps due to
the 64-bit width. Unfortunately, in my work place, we are not able to
update things at will. I'll try to work the ropes a bit more on that
front.

Thanks, Marco.
