This says:

ignore duplicate commands,
ignore any command starting with space, backslash, or t,
ignore any comment

and tac starts with 't'.

Oh, you wanted to ignore tab? Well, in bash regular expressions, [\t]
stands for two characters; if you want to ignore tab, you have to type a
literal TAB character instead.
