But the above output from /proc/partitions is strange. Where's sdb1? Anyway, typically you read from sdb1 on CF cards and their siblings. Only as admin you can read from sdb. I just tested this again with a CF card in an USB reader attached to a W7 64 bit machine running Cygwin 1.7.17. Are you *sure* you tried it with admin rights? Did you start your Cygwin shell with `Run as administrator'?
