Yes, also

clang++ -D_X86_=1 -c foo.cxx -o foo.o

works...

Anyway, perhaps this is an issue with CLANG.. Indeed I notice that

$ echo | gcc -dD -E - | grep X86
#define _X86_ 1

$ echo | clang -dD -E - | grep X86
EMPTY

So gcc defines that symbol, clang not...
