No, that was a typo.  I used test.bin.

No.  In my examples ./test.bin and
//this-machine/c\$/cygwin/home/corinna/test.bin refer to the same file,
//other-machine/c\$/cygwin/home/corinna/test.bin is a file on another
machine.
