Still no luck. Since I don't have "uname" command either, I decided to "reinstall" the "cygwin" (1.7.10-1) and "coreutil" (8.15-1) packages by running the setup and selecting "reinstall". I rebooted my PC before doing this so there should not have been any Cygwin processes running. After this, I'm still having the same issue - I can only execute the internal "bash" commands, which are the commands listed by doing "help" from the shell. I'm not able to run any other commands such as "ls", "uname", and "man" ... I see the following message in the install log. Does this means the "reinstall" failed? 2012/02/24 19:19:26 Uninstalling base-cygwin 2012/02/24 19:19:26 io_stream_cygfile: fopen(/etc/setup/base-cygwin.lst.gz) failed 2 No such file or directory ------------------------------ Eric Blake wrote: Other threads [1] from people who have taken this course have shown that the windows update-on-reboot doesn't always work, in which case you might still be running cygwin 1.7.9 inadvertently (and coreutils 8.15 requires cygwin 1.7.10 for things like ls to work). What does 'uname -a' say; and if it is still 1.7.9, then you need to either rename /bin/cygwin1.dll.new to cygwin1.dll, or rerun setup.exe and reinstall cygwin1.dll, but either way, make sure that this time you really have stopped all cygwin processes first.
