Thanks, Michael. I also got a reply at http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-files/does-windows-7-do-file-caching-which-can-lead-to/181d8eca-4b59-4121-a8a9-545f465a9f61. That thread also provides a good reference to file virtualization: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927387 .
