No, readline does not need mintty. bash uses readline and it is (currently) the default shell which is started when you click on cygwin desktop link. >We have such an an application that (after upgrading to the current >1.7.9-1 version of Cygwin) works OK if started from a mintty window, >but crashes, with symptoms like > > 24 [main] gapw95 428 exception::handle: Exception: STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION >13628 [main] gapw95 428 open_stackdumpfile: Dumping stack trace to >gapw95.exe.stackdump > > at startup when started from Windows command prompt. >It used to work before the Cygwin 1.7 era. You haven't provided any details so either you're going to have to debug this further or you will need to provide more details about what is going on with gapw95. If you have the sources (and you should since gapw95 is an open source program) you could run the program under gdb to see where it dies. cgf -- Problem reports: http://cygwin.com/problems.html FAQ: http://cygwin.com/faq/ Documentation: http://cygwin.com/docs.html Unsubscribe info: http://cygwin.com/ml/#unsubscribe-simple
