I have, perhaps unnecessarily, tty defined (as well as ntsec). My typical use of cygwin involves opening a cygwin window using a desktop shortcut (link til bat file): @echo off C: chdir C:\cygwin\bin bash --login -i I generelly use command line editing a lot (is tty necessary for that?). My other use is to open a Command window using windows explorer to have it change directory to the shown directory (shift-right click->Open Command Windows Here). From that windows I type "C:\cygwin\bin\bash -l" to get a cygwin prompt. There I type "cd -" to get back to the chosen directory to perform whatever task I need (mostly grep, find, running make, again some command line editing, rarely using an editor). If tty doesn't make a difference for my use, I have little objection to removing it.
