  What most people who used Emacs would use Dired for is to avoid
having to go to a terminal shell to do:
ls
ls -l
ls -lrt
ls -d
rm <some_file>
rm <glob_expression>
mv <file1> <file2>
chmod
chown
many, many other things as well
