on a Novell Network drive

$ echo bal > foo.
bash: foo.: No such file or directory
$
$ echo bal > foo
$
$ ls -al foo
-rw-r--r-- 1 n-zacharias Kein 5 2010-04-08 07:37 foo

On NTFS

$ echo bal > foo.
$ echo bal > foo
$ ls -al foo*
-rw-r--r--+ 1 n-zacharias Kein 5 2010-04-08 07:41 foo
-rw-r--r--+ 1 n-zacharias Kein 5 2010-04-08 07:41 foo.
