I discover my C compiler is broken while performing a "configure".

$ echo "{}" >test.c
$ cc -O test.c -o test
test.c:1: error: expected identifier or ‘(’ before ‘{’ token
/usr/local/mysql-5/mysql-5.1.41.$ cc -V test.c -o test
cc: couldn't run 'i686-pc-cygwin-gcc-test.c': No such file or directory
/usr/local/mysql-5/mysql-5.1.41.$ cc -v test.c -o test
Using built-in specs.
