OK. Here is a simple test case:


X=100000
while [ $X -gt 0 ] ; do echo "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog"
; let X=X-1; done  > testfile

time grep dog testfile | wc

Cygwin 1.5:
real    0m0.219s
user    0m0.232s
sys     0m0.045s

Cygwin 1.7:
real    7m46.575s
user    7m14.138s
sys     0m0.076s

While using sed on Cygwin 1.5, I get the reasonable result:
time sed -ne /dog/p testfile | wc

real    0m1.229s
user    0m1.202s
sys     0m0.046s
