Ah sorry for the confusion, I had modified my PS1 settings (which I could
set after manually sourcing .bashrc) so I just put a % for my prompt in
the email.

If I start cygwin normally my prompt looks like this:

d DOT tang AT imb09-02635 ~
$

Also

d DOT tang AT imb09-02635 ~
$ echo $SHELL
/bin/bash

d DOT tang AT imb09-02635 ~
$ echo $0
-bash
