:-) Yes it works! Three important things are going wrong in "my" past: 1. /etc/passwd as well as /etc/group are necessary in windows to enable cygwin to map windows SID/GID to posix uid/gid. 2. --numeric-ids are necessary during backup to server if the client uid/gid is unknown there (whats probably the case) . During restore --numeric-ids are not necessary because uid/gid should be known on client side. 3. The environment variable must be CYGWIN=ntsec, which is already the default.
