You've cracked it again Dave..!  It was the mingw directory that was causing
the problem.  I only added it a couple of days ago because something else
wouldn't compile without it.  I can't remember exactly what it was right now
but obviously the same problem will crop up again, eventually.  Now that I
understand this is a no-no, I'll have to investigate the previous problem
more deeply when it re-surfaces.
