You can't run anything because "/bin" isn't in your path most likely.
Using fully qualified paths will work in this case.  And postinstall
scripts should be doing this already.  YMMV.

Hm, this brings me back to something I noticed before but decided to
ignore, without good reason.  Why, exactly, do you not have the 'ash'
package?  Now I'm really thinking this is the route of your problems.
