Running with cut-down PATH: [samuel DOT popper AT localhost ~]$ echo $PATH /usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin [samuel DOT popper AT localhost ~]$ NUM=1; while true ; do echo `echo $NUM` ; NUM=$(( $NUM + 1 )); done 1 2 Here, it hung after 2 iterations. The default /etc/profile forks more than that! Other than sneaking in via PATH, the only moderately intrusive thing running on the system is Sysinternal's ProcessExplorer. But I tried running with that closed, and it made no difference. Is there anything else that could contribute to BLODA?
