I dunno what exactly happened or how, but I once found my xorg-x11-fnts
package in the local package dir was messed up in some way that fatally
confused setup.exe in a similar fashion. What worked for me was blowing away
all the xorg-x11-fnts dirs that I could find in all the different per-mirror
directories in my local package dir and rerunning setup.exe to let it download
what it needed again.
You might find it worth trying a different mirror just to be on the safe
side, but I just used an ftp client to fetch
xorg-x11-fnts-6.8.99.901-1.tar.bz2 manually and then verified its md5sum, so I
think the mirror itself is ok.
