That would fix the problem for Cygwin. Unfortunately, I don't know how
it will affect all the other platforms.

The normal "python setup.py" has always worked for me.

I'm willing to symlink or copy libpython2.4.dll.a to /usr/lib, if it is
determined to be the best solution. Would you be willing to do the leg
work?
