A while ago there was a discussion (in the "Vista & coreutils" thread) that suggested adding an install.exe.manifest file to solve the UAC issues with Vista. From a Cygwin 1.5.24-2 install, two more manifest files are needed: one for install-info.exe and (more importantly) one for patch.exe, otherwise you get a "permission denied" error when launching either of them. The required manifest is identical to the one already provided for /bin/install.exe, just update the "name" field to point to the new executable. If you are adding the manifest to an existing installation, you may need to touch the .exe files after creating the manifests as Vista caches this metadata.
