Thank you very much, "o conf init" was the thing I needed:-)
Also thanks to all the responders. Your posts were very useful as well.

Now the installation process of Device: SerialPort advances further but
hangs at the testing steps... It's really a question not for this topic
anymore, and I'll ask it in the cpan list.  Anyway as there are so many
good people in the list I would highly appreciate if someone explains me
what's going on.

program hangs. I had to use Crtl+C combination to leave the program.
