You don't need to do this since you've mounted the UNC path below but since
you did, what does 'ls /cygdrive/y' say?

> ls: /y: No such file or directory

> C:\win\cygwin\bin on /usr/bin type system (binmode)
> C:\win\cygwin\lib on /usr/lib type system (binmode)

What does 'ls //goddard/abiyani' say?
