Dam spoke too soon. The experimental version seems to loose output
sometimes, possibly not being flushed. Here's a reproductive sequence
for you.

freebsd1> ssh cygwin1
cygwin1> echo "1" > /tmp/test.txt
cygwin1> cat /tmp/test.txt
1
cygwin1> exit
freebsd1> ssh cygwin1 "cat /tmp/test.txt"
*** no output ***

Looks like its just not flushing the output at someone point in the
reworked code.
