Speaking of no output -- I've managed to reproduce Tom Rodman's 'no output
from "ssh localhost date"' problem[*] with the recent CVS builds
(including today's CVS HEAD).  I was thinking of debugging this myself,
but could post an strace if it's likely to be helpful.  I have to admit I
don't understand the code that well -- the strace seems to simply go from
open_shared to maybe_set_exit_code_from_windows, which doesn't look like a
normal sequence of events...

If you think this is unlikely to be related to the problems you mention,
let me know and I'll try to dig deeper myself.
