more has a feature where it can invoke your editor.  If VISUAL and
EDITOR are undefined in your environment, it insists that 'vi'
exist somewhere on your path.  I ensured this was the case by
editing setup.hint accordingly.  However, this may have been
a bit extreme, so cgf may want to remove vim as a dependency
in the setup.hint, now that he has volunteered to be the more
maintainer.
