I can't reproduce this. My testcase returns -1 and ENOMSG just fine. I also inspected the message queue related source code which is basically the same running on FreeBSD. I don't see how it should be able to return something other than -1 in this case. If you're still sure there's a bug somewhere, please provide a reproducible, minimal testcase.
