I dunno.  I had thought that the _update_info_dir package would 
automagically "do its thing" and cause install-info to be performed on 
both of these files.

But apparently that's not happening.  I don't really understand the 
_update_info_dir magic -- cgf?

As for why there is not plain "autoconf.info", that's an oversight on my 
  part.  One of the two should provide it; my money's on the -2.5x 
package.  I'll make a note of it, and make sure the next release does 
the right thing.

For now, do this:
   $ cd  /usr/share/info
   $ cp autoconf-2.5x.info.gz autoconf.info.gz
   $ install-info -D /usr/share/info -i  XXXX
where XXX is each of the three info files in turn.
