Subject: Re: having trouble compiling gcc (3.3.3 or 3.3.5) in cygwin

at first, i tried that, and while the compile does get distributed, it is also guarenteed to fail. something like this results:

Po"; else rm -f ".deps/pre_stage2_exec-builtins.Tpo"; exit 1; fi
distccd[1068] (dcc_execvp) ERROR: failed to exec i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc: No such file or directory
distcc[15129] ERROR: compile bios.c on 10.0.0.125 failed with exit code 110
make[2]: *** [pre_stage2_exec-bios.o] Error 1
make[2]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs....
make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/grub-0.96-r1/work/grub-0.96/stage2'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/grub-0.96-r1/work/grub-0.96'
make: *** [all] Error 2

!!! ERROR: sys-boot/grub-0.96-r1 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 118, Exitcode 2
!!! making regular stuff
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.

not knowing much about using linux on linux, much less via cygwin, when i came across the gentoo wiki for installing a distcc server in cygwin, i thought all this compiling was necessary to build things right.

in otherwords, you're saying my problem is that its not working out of the box, as i detailed above?

my gentoo box has gcc 3.3.5, and my cygwin box has 3.3.1. i read that the slightly different version wouldnt be a problem.
