Hi All... I tracked it down. It is not a problem with keychain, openssh or cygwin. Occasionally, on this particular laptop (XP SP2), the user can reboot, log in and start a bash shell before all of the services are running or while they are still starting. Gotta love Microsoft. So that was causing the problem. I have a little more handshaking to prevent the problem now. I think the keychain service stuff just is about ready for a wider audience. Corinna...I have not heard back from Hack after I sent him an e-mail a week ago. I am happy to support an updated keychain package, or just place my files in the archives. We can wait a while longer to see if we hear from Hack. Just let me know how you would like to proceed.
