I just spent several hours getting a program to run as a service on 
Windows XP.  I created a user account that only belongs to the "Users" 
group.  I created my service to run in this account.  But the service 
would not start.

I found that I had to launch the "group policy editor" gpedit.msc and 
add the privilege "Log on as a service" to the user account.

I suspect that you already know this.  I apologize if I'm being unhelpful.
